EU worried about press freedom

The European Union has expressed concern about press freedom in Zimbabwe following a bomb attack on a privately owned newspaper, the 'Daily News', Reuters said on Thursday. "This (bombing) attack on the premises of an independent journal and other attacks during the weekend on vendors of the 'Herald' and the 'Sunday Mail' was the culmination of a series of violent incidents which undermine freedom of expression," a statement by the EU said. "A free and independent press is a vital element in the maintenance of democratic values and respect for the rule of law in any country," the statement added.
