Aircraft attacked in Kismayo

A Kenyan registered light aircraft was destroyed at the Kismayo airport, 500 km south of Mogadishu. The Kenyan newspaper The Daily Nation said on Monday that a rocket propelled grenade destroyed the aircraft when it was on the ground on Sunday. No one, including the pilot a Captain Njoroge, was hurt in the incident, including the Kenyan pilot, Captain Njoroge, The Daily Nation said. According to the report, the plane had just delivered a consignment of ‘qat’ - a mild stimulant chewed by Somalis - to the airport from Nairobi, Kenya. ‘Qat’ flights to various parts of Somalia leave Nairobi’s Wilson Airport on a daily basis, including to the southern port of Kismayo. The shooting was said to be related to a dispute between traders.
