Iraq. A displaced family from Mosul living at Baharka Camp on the outskirts of Erbil, IraqFares's daughters and granddaughters jump on mattresses outside their shelter at Baharka Camp on the outskirts of Erbil, Iraq. Fares fled Mosul with his family in the summer of 2014 after militants murdered one of his sons and kidnapped his daughter and another son. Fares sought refuge in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq with his family and two grandchildren. They now live in Baharka Camp for displaced persons. Fares does repairs around the camp for money and his wife Bushra runs a small shops. They have a tent and single room in the camp and stress the hardship of their lives, “The living conditions here are very difficult. There are no jobs, no income. The shelter here doesn’t protect us from the rain or the heat.”
