Law on private broadcasters approved

Sao Tome and Principe’s national assembly has approved a bill allowing the creation of private radio and television stations, RDP Africa reported on Tuesday. The leader of the largest opposition faction in parliament, Edgar Neves of the Accao Democratica Independente party, described the passage of the bill on Tuesday as a victory for democracy in Sao Tome and Principe, the Portuguese radio station reported. He said it crowned a long struggle by the opposition and society in general.
