FILM: South Sudan - Shattered Dreams

NAIROBI, 5 February 2014 (IRIN) - On 15 December, 2013, simmering tensions within the army and ruling party of newly-independent South Sudan came to a head in a blaze of gunfire in the capital, Juba.

Violence spread quickly across the city and far beyond, turning communities against each other in a spiral of killing which has claimed thousands of lives.

The crisis has affected more than three million people, almost a third of whom have fled their homes.  The UN estimates US$1.2 billion is needed to address humanitarian needs.

In South Sudan: Shattered Dreams, IRIN presents three films exploring the causes, effects and potential aftermath of the current conflict.
