SENEGAL: Venezuela to help mine oil

ABIDJAN, 1 October 1999 (IRIN) - Venezuela signed an agreement with Senegal on Monday to help the West African country mine some one billion mt of heavy crude oil off its southern coast. Senegal had put off the exploitation of its oil for years as world prices had hovered around US $10 a barrel. Energy Minister Magued Diouf said in Dakar it was now economical to mine oil because prices had risen to around US $24 per barrel.
