AFGHANISTAN: Absent husbands leave behind desperate women and children

FARYAB, 19 August 2007 (IRIN) - Thousands of Afghan women abandoned by their husbands head a difficult life in Faryab Province, north of Afghanistan, according to provincial officials. Many young Afghan men who left their country during long years of strife in the country, due to prevalent insecurity and unemployment, have not returned to home to restart their role as guardians of their wives and children. IRIN’s Parwin Arezo reports from provincial capital Maimana.
