IRIN Radio gives a voice to vulnerable communities and provides them with information to make better-informed decisions about their own lives. IRIN Radio produces high-quality programming in local languages on humanitarian issues, ready for broadcast by local stations. The service also provides hands-on training to journalists, developing their production and reporting skills, allowing local radio to serve communities more effectively.

AFGHANISTAN: Severe drought prompts flash floods
The Afghanistan National Disasters Management Authority has said severe drought has led to the hardening of the land in the worst-affected provinces, thus increasing the chances of rain – even light rain - turning into flash floods. While some parts of the country suffer unprecedented drought in the past several years, flash floods have caused human casualties and economic loses in several provinces in the east, central and northern provinces. AFGHANISTAN: Locals in Kandahar accuse police of corruption, harassment
Residents of Kandahar Province, southern Afghanistan, complain of corruption in the local police force and harassment by its officers. The Ministry of Interior admits to some problems within police ranks in volatile southern provinces, but has promised reform. The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission says the police must ensure security and uphold the rule of law in a humane way. IRIN's Noorullah Stanikzai reports…
