On 6 May 2017 in the Syrian Arab Republic, men offload boxes of nutrition supplies from a truck, in the Wadi Barada area in Rural Damascus. A group of boys are watching the men unload the supplies. A joint United Nations, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Syrian Arab Red Crescent convoy has brought essential humanitarian aid for children and families living in the hard-to-reach area. UNICEF teams delivered critical health, nutrition and hygiene supplies and educational materials for 11,000 people living in five villages in Wadi Barada during the inter-agency mission. People have slowly begun to return to their homes in Wadi Barada’s villages following an end to hostilities in the area last January. “In less than 40 days, the population of our village increased more than five times,” a health worker from one of the villages told a UNICEF staff member. “Some 20 people had to share one house. We had to share everything. I didn’t know who I was splitting my piece of bread with,” the health worker continued.
