Residents of Silvan, a city in Diyarbakir Province, returned to bullet-ridden homes after the curfew there was lifted in November. In February 2016, it was estimated that between 100,000 and 200,000 people had left their homes and fled recent fighting in southeastern Turkey as government forces battled separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels.
