Esma-Tabit 38yrs old at the Temporary Education Centre Yenice, Sanhurfa Turkey. Esma is a primary school teacher from Damascus Syria. She has not seen her husband, also a teacher, since 2013. Esma tried to stay in Damascus and await news about her husband. “In my heart I know he is alive, I know he is.” Esma has three daughters and one son - Sudi (girl) 11yrs who wants to be an architect, Belkiz 10yrs (girl) who wants to be a doctor, Julia (girl) 8yrs who wants to be an Empress! And the young boy Beylessan 5yrs who wants to be a paediatrician. Esma and her children lived in the suburbs of Damascus for as long as they could until the violence became too much. “I have been teaching in Turkey at several different schools since I came now I am here at this school which I enjoy very much. I love my students at this school but the education levels her are very different than they are at home because of the war. So many of the children have so many problems and traumas." Esma says that she misses Damascus. “The smell of the flowers in the streets, the air, the old city and the lifestyle. But I have lost all hope for the future of Syria, this war will just continue until every thing is gone or destroyed. But I do hope for a better future for my children, somewhere, somehow. But for all Syrians, Syria is our Heaven.“ The centre is supported by UNICEF through the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, which is helping to provide education, learning and protection for thousands of families like Esma's.
