Nepal earthquake response - updates

The scale of the disaster facing Nepal after it was struck by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake is slowly becoming clearer: thousands of people have died; thousands more have been injured; buildings have been reduced to rubble; roads, bridges and communications systems are severely damaged.

Some villages close to the epicentre have yet to be reached, leading many to predict that the true extent of the disaster is likely to be greater still. Aid has been pledged and teams are mobilising from around the world, but the challenges facing this large international emergency response are great.
