UN appoints independent human rights adviser

    NAIROBI
    The UN has appointed Burkinabe lawyer Titinga Pacéré to report on the human rights situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), UN News reported on Wednesday. Pacéré, an ethnologist, has won several awards for his work with the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, advocating the human rights of migrant workers in Burkina Faso from 1897 to 2003. In addition, he is one of the lawyers accredited to appear before the ongoing UN Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda based in Arusha, Tanzania. He will work independently of any government and will report to the UN Human Rights Commission and, in some cases, directly to the UN General Assembly.
