    بفضل دورها البارز في قبول السوريين الفارين من النزاع، تفوقت تركيا مؤخراً على باكستان بوصفها البلد الذي يستضيف أكبر عدد من اللاجئين في العالم.

    ولكن ما يمكن أن نسميها بـ "الضيافة التركية" تعود إلى أبعد من ذلك بكثير - من عهد اليهود الهاربين من محاكم التفتيش في القرن الخامس عشر حتى طالبي اللجوء من كوسوفو في عام 1999.

    ويستحضر معرض جديد هذا التاريخ الغني. وقد زارت شبكة الأنباء الإنسانية (إيرين) هذا المعرض مؤخراً في جنيف، حيث اصطحبنا السفير التركي محمد فيردين كاريكتشي ونائبه بيرك باران في جولة في رواق مزدحم تابع للأمم المتحدة.

    ويبلغ عدد اللاجئين السوريين في تركيا الآن 1.7 مليون شخص، متجاوزاً عدد اللاجئين الأفغان في باكستان والبالغ 1.6 مليون لاجئ.


    وسيزور المعرض مدن برلين وفيينا وستراسبورج وبروكسل وباريس في الأشهر المقبلة.
