Heavy fighting in central region

    ABIDJAN
    Angolan government troops and the UNITA rebel movement engaged in heavy fighting at the weekend for the control of Gamba, a strategic point in the Angolan central highlands, the Angolan news agency ‘Angop’ said on Monday. It said that the fighting began last week when UNITA tried to overrun Gamba, about 40 km southeast of the town of Nharea in northwestern Bie Province. It added that Gamba was considered a key point for the stabilisation of the military situation in nearby Bie.
