Chad. People fled Central African Republic to Chad with a majority women and childrenA group of new arrivals, mainly women and children arriving in Chad with their belonging on their head.BACKGROUND INFORMATION:Over a 1000 people have arrived in southern Chad fleeing new violence in the north-west of Central African Republic (CAR) on Tuesday 4th April and Wednesday 5th April 2017.
UNHCR and Government’s national refugee commission, CNARR, led a multi-agency mission including WFP and OCHA on Wednesday 5th April to assess the situation.
So far 1135 people for a total of 362 households have been registered by local authorities in Sourou, a Chadian village at the border with CAR where security has been strengthened by the Chadian authorities, according to the mission members.
Asylum seekers say that they fled the renewed fighting in northwestern CAR where armed elements from former Seleka movement are said to have attacked the town of Ngaoundaye, near the borders with Chad and Cameroon, on Tuesday 4th April, 2017.
