HEALTH: Most paediatric fevers not caused by malaria
6 July 2010 (IRIN ), More than half the paediatric fevers treated in public health clinics in Africa are caused by diseases other than malaria, according to a study by Oxford University and other research groups, whose authors caution against the "continued indiscriminate use of anti-malarials for all fevers across Africa."

AFRICA: Go-ahead for IDP convention

AFRICA: Ten countries desperately seeking doctors
19 May 2010 (IRIN ), Shortages of medical staff have been identified as one of the major impediments to achieving the health-related UN Millennium Development Goals. For example, one of the poorest countries in the world, Mozambique, has just 548 doctors for a population of more than 22 million, according to the UN World Health Organization.
